This beautifully restored FJ has made me F'n Jealous

When I saw this story pop up today, reader RXseven7sevin had commented at the bottom: "I have no idea why someone would want to do a build like this."
Old mate is clearly more of a sports car kinda guy, and I'm not all that into off-roading either – but to not see the appeal in this beautiful little FJ... crazy.
Never read the comments!

'Humble beginnings' would be an understatement...
This 1971 FJ40, built by Legacy Overland, is a masterclass in the restomod philosophy.
It’s a ground-up rebuild that started from a rusted-out shell, now packing a GM 350ci (5.7L) Vortec V8 good for around 235kW, paired with a five-speed manual.
As a restomod, the FJ has also been equipped with power steering, and disc brakes at all four corners. This isn’t just about brute force; it’s about creating a usable, reliable classic.

It's properly finished for the rough stuff too, with a 63mm lift on Old Man Emu suspension, a nearly 5500kg winch, and 16-inch steel wheels on chunky General Grabber M/T tyres.
To me though, the real treat is inside, where you'll find an distressed chestnut leather trim, all showing a level of craftsmanship that elevates it beyond a simple tool.

A huge investment, sure, but the result is an icon remade for today without losing its soul.
It's worth taking a look at the Legacy Overland site, too. You'll see plenty more of this type of work, including other generations of LandCruiser, a few Land Rovers and a Bronco or two. All lovely work.
